Personal Statement
My name is Evan Dissanayake. I am currently a Professional Engineer working at Burns Engineering . I received my Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Drexel University in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I have conducted projects in every major sector of Electrical and Computer Engineering from Electronics to Telecommunication, Systems, Robotics, Power, Computer Networking, and Computer Architecture. I have also created models and conducted projects in the field of Business and Economics.
My passion for engineering runs back to when I was a kid and built simple electronic circuits such as the Robo circuit and the Knight Rider circuit for fun. Going further I decided to take courses in Electronics in my high school, and was the only student to obtain the highest merit in the National Electronics exam. With this achievement, and the passion I had for technology I decided to pursue a Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Drexel University. I enjoyed every class I took and have improved my technical and analytical skills to a great extent. During my career at Drexel I have completed three insightful internships, served as a Teaching Instructor for the department of Physics and Mathematics, conducted research as a Research Assistant and held many Leadership positions in various organizations. My internships were in the Power & Utility industry where I worked closely with junior and senior engineers and assisted them in conducting power flow studies to ensure the Electric Grid was reliable and efficient. I was a research assistant under Dr Kapil Dandekar and worked in simulating and building circuitry for an Ultra-wideband impulse radio. I presented my research in the 2010 NCHC (National Collegiate Honors Council) conference. As an Orientation Leader for the International Students and scholars Services and a Mentor for Drexel Universities Honors College I provide guidance and mentorship for incoming freshman students to help make their Drexel experience more enriching and enjoyable. For my senior design project I built a robot arm that can play chess with a human interactively under the mentorship of Dr Pramod Abichandani with three other classmates. Furthermore, I completed a Masters Thesis Power and Robotics under the mentorship of Dr Youngmoo Kim, where I built a mathematical model to predict the power consumption of the HUBO 2+ Humanoid robot, build a battery super capacitor hybrid and implement Dynamic Power Management to improve Power Efficiency.
I am currently working at Burns Engineering as a Professional Electrical Engineer for the Rail Road and Transit Group. I am well versed in the field of Electrical and Computer Engineering and have valuable experience through my internships, leadership positions at Drexel University and my work experience at Burns Engineering. I am a highly motivated individual, a quick learner, enjoy challenging tasks and possess the ability to work independently and within a team environment. Given a task I assure maximum results in a minimum amount of time. I possess strong peoples skills and am an effective leader who loves leading teams and providing guidance and mentorship. I am a result oriented person who would go above and beyond putting my heart, mind and soul to ensure whatever I am entrusted with is done in an effective and timely fashion.
